Joe...good number to start with...I started with 2 hens and now have 12. As William said, when the bug bites you, you will need room for expansion. Especially if you decide to let one of the girls stay broody, if that happens. It did with me and I let her hatch a clutch of 12 with a 100% hatch rate...it was fun and exciting...best of luck with your new girls...Scooter
