It seems some of my birds have dry pox (wyandotte rooster and several wyandotte hens and white rock hens) as they have black spots on their combs and wattles. The rooster is the worst, but none are really bad. All birds are more than 5 months old, with about half the hens in the first week or two of laying (still laying tiny eggs).
Researching all of this, some say to vaccinate ANY bird at ANY age to deal with it, some say that vaccinations are for chicks only, and some say just let it run its course and the birds will be fine. We have had a wet summer here in Colorado, and I have a pond and wetland very close by, so mosquitos are likely culprits in the spreading of the stuff, but should I vaccinate now or not? With only a few more weeks left of "mosquito season" will the stuff run its course and be gone during winter, or will they always have it?
Just wondering what to do; I don't really want to loose my birds now after all the time invested. Thanks much!
