A 6x8 coop under roof would be good for 12 birds. the birds need at least 1 foot of space to roost. you need proably to put in 3 roost poles. and at least 4 nest boxes. don't make it to tight air movement will be real important in La. I have found heat kills quicker than cold. Silkies have something about there feet. someone with silkies jump in help with the size of roost poles.
