An Easter Egger is derived from a South American breed called Araucana, which lays colored eggs, mostly blue, green, or pinkish. Araucanas are "rumpless", meaning they don`t sport tails, for the most part. Derivatives from that breed also lay colored eggs and sport beards or cheek tufts, although beards are more common and they come in assorted colors. The two most common lines to be offshoots of Araucanas, which are now considered "breeds" by many, are Americanas and Easter Eggers. They have beards and come in assorted colors and do lay colored eggs although one of the "colors" is white. Most will, however, lay green eggs and that gene tends to be dominant. Don`t be surprised if your tufted ladies lay green eggs.
