Maybe this darker little egg didn't come from one of your hens. Maybe it was from a wild bird of some kind that got into the coop. They do that. Cowbirds and cuckoos and a number of other kinds of wild birds prefer to lay in the nests of other birds. Don't forget Horton the elephant, either!
