Chickens have a natural instinct to roost. Provide them with strong roost that will not sag, they should be about 2 inches in diameter. I have roost both inside and outside.Give all chickens a wide enough space so they can get comfortable. When my chickens were young I put in a step so the young birds could find the roost easier. When the chickens start to lay put a golfball in the nest. that will help teach them to lay in the boxes.
