One of my chickens has been laying soft eggs now for about 6 months (she's about 1-1/2 years old)---she lays one hard egg for about every six soft ones. She seems perfectly normal and in good health and spirits. The vet gave me calcium for the water, which seemed to help. When that ran out, I went to oyster shells, which seem not to help. I just read about vinegar in the water to help calcium absorption, and I just added it five minutes ago. A friend suggested some kind of potassium additive to help with the calcium aborption, too. Has anyone every heard of that? And might you know in what form it comes?
My two birds eat a lot of grass and fallen tomatoes and stuff in the yard, and I was wondering if that might be adding to this difficulty---maybe I should simply keep them in their pen, which would force them mainly to eat their feed.
Thanks!
