uh, well Holly, these are mostly called soft shelled eggs, rather than soft eggs. that may be your problem on doing research.
As Ruby is the only one doing it, I'd say she has a problem?
Google poultry science. see what books your library has?
if she is very young and just started laying, her "put a shell on the egg" thing may kick in.
some pullets just need a little practice to get it right.
I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it. your just going to have to wait and see if a little maturity will help. Bill.
