I have gotten so much help here that it is a very great pleasure to help even just with ideas or moral support. You are surely welcome! Palpate means pretty much what you did, you feel gently along an area with your fingertips (more nerves to feel tiny differences there) in sort of a massaging way so that you cover the whole area. Poor little girl, I bet that was not fun! You never know what curves a pullet will throw you. I doubt it will happen again, but I bet you're right about that little bit of massage helping her to get them out. I'm a big believer in holding my animals when they are in distress and petting or massaging them. Calming them sometimes helps their bodies to just go ahead and do what they need to do. And as we all remember, or are finding out, puberty is tough and confusing for everyone!
