My Sister and I visited St James on 21st January and found Captain Harrison thanks to your website, he is our Great Great Grandfather and we brought a foral tribute and tried to clean up the inscription. Unfortunately it was not possible to make it much clearer! We would very much like you to change the wording on the site from Sadly neglected to visited by his Great Great Grand daughters on his 149th Anniversary!
There was obviously an obilisk on top of the monument at one time which has disappeared and I foolishly forgot to write down the maker which is inscribed at the bottom of the side of the block, where it is recorded that Martha his wife had also joined him (in 1875) if anyone is passing could they let me know who's name is there as the maker and I will try to trace them.
There are several identical monuments nearby so he was obviously a well known and well used local mason.
If any of his other decendents ever visit I have left details at the grave so they can contact me but I doubt they will be there long! I will post a photo with the floral tribute soon, so you can see we have not neglected him.
