pray for big goldfishy!

I went out to check on things and found one ofthe two big goldfish on the ground outside the pond! I put himback in,andput medicine in the water... Pray he recovers! He was covered in dirt and sawdust! Poor thing! I think he either got scared and jumped out, which is unlikely, he was so far from the pond, or a cat got to him. I don't know. I know it wasn't a raccoon unless I scared it off. before it ate him. He didnt'look hurt or punctured, but it's dark out and I couldn't see well.
Poor Fishy! Pray he gets well. I felt so bad! I rearranged the big rocks so I could put extra covering over the pond, sonothign could get in there. I hope he and all the others will be okay! Last week a small pink fish disappeared from the pond.

a wiremesh cover is needed for the pond.

We have some fishies here, and some can jump
out of an aquarium if a cover is not on.
Then a fish can cover quite a distance
because of the discomfort they experience out
of water.
We are glad no animal ate the goldfish.

I had a wire mesh over the top, but ther ewas a gap between two rocks that was pretty large. I fixed that. I rearranged rocks todiscourage drinking from teh pond, andhave the wire mesh back on top,and no gaps! The fish, so far is doing okay!

Thanks! Big goldfishy seems to be doingokay today. I rearranged rocks around the pond and put the wire mesh over the top, with no gaps in it... HOpefully he wont' jump out, or the cats won't get to him again, or whatever happened!

Thank you! SO far big goldfishy is doing okay. I dont' know if he's a she or he. I call them all he's. He has a friend, the other Big Goldfishy. That's white-tail. They are best friends. There are two smaller one, Sharky and Little fishy. You can see i'm not too original with fish names, they are all big fishy or little fishy to me! LOL!

Anyway, Big Goldfishy seems okay for now. I hope there are not upcoming health problems from this. Big Goldfishy and White-Tail have survived SO much hardship in the past years, that they need peace and happiness !

Yo, big goldfishy!

Be sure to never again leap from the pond, dude!
We do not want your friend, Sees, to get such a
bad scare again.

Fishies over here have an aquarium cover.
It is hard for a fishy here to leap out because of
this cover, but a few did leap out of the water
a couple years ago.
Then the water was tested, and found out that the
water needed treatments because ammonia was
too high and nitrates were also increasing too
quickly.
After a treatment with beneficial bacteria added
to the sponge filter and a 33% water change and
a buffer added to water to keep pH close to 7.0 (acidity/alkalinity at neutral),
the fishies stopped leaping from the tank.

When water testing is done now, the results are
usually very good now. Once the beneficial bacteria grows well within the sponge filter
material, ammonia is changed to nitrite (less toxic)
and then nitite is changed to nitrate (much less toxic),
and the aquarium plants and water changes dilute
the amount of nitrates to a very low level.
If nitrates of 40 parts are still OK, the readings now are usually less than 15 parts.
And the ammonia from fish wastes and decaying, uneaten fish foods, is almost absent, or is a
very, very small amount.
This good bio-system results from a good culture of beneficial bacteria that continues to grow in the sponge filter matrix.
When the sponge filter is cleaned, it should be squeezed out repeatedly in a large bowl of
aquarium water, then the dirty water is discarded.
Then the cleaned sponge is returned to continue
growing good bacteria and keeping the water healthy.

I don't think he jumped. I think he was "helped" out of teh water perhaps.

I do regular water changes, and add water conditioners that take chlorine out, and i remove waste products daily! THese fish, they spent 5 months in a stagnant icky smelly environ becaue peopel thought they had died! Now, I make sure they have clean flowing water, algae control, plants in their water etc...

I NEED to replace the aquarium filters indoors though. I had to treat the fish for ICK and now I need a water change and filters etc..

I have guppies indoors, and big goldfishy outside!

I think the cats batted the fish, or scared him out of the water. It was covered with only a msall area big enough for a cat to stick his nead and feet in to drink... I think, maybe a feral or a home cat deicde to play with the orange moving things in the water.

Big goldfishy is fine so far though! YAY!!!!

Lucky!

They are lucky you have them now and are taking
good care of them.

How long is Big Goldfishy? Do you have neighbors
that would harm any of your outdoor pets?
Because it seems like a cat would have left him in
bad condition, if alive.
Unless he is a very
large goldfish. Then the cat may decide to leave
him alone if difficult to handle.

If it were my cats, they might have gotten scared when Big Goldfishy flopped around. He's about 11 inches long, and stocky! It's eitehr that,or somethign got to him, but I opened the door and scared them off before they could harm him further. I knwo I'd been out only an hour prior, and all was well. Then I came out, and noticed that weird thing on the ground.

It seems odd he'd find theone little spot and jump out... and he's never jumped before. I sit and watch them for hours and hours, sometimes, at night... I love to see them slowly drift around, kind ofhjalf sleeping. THen I love feeding them! I'm going to get sinking food. The danger for fish, is when they see something, and think it means food and come to the top to feed.
