As someone from the Netherlands where parliament has to give it's consent the idea of someone like Martha Louise's boyfriend (and by that i mean his convictions and his profession, not his nationality or ethnic background) being approved are slim to zero.
Trond Norén Isaksen wrote on his official Facebook page on Nov 13:
"In a comment to the broadcaster NRK, the royal court spokeswomen, Guri Varpe, says that the King and Queen do not decide whom the Princess should marry and that this is solely up to her (however, she neglects to mention that Article 36 of the Constitution actually says that a prince or princess who is in the order of succession cannot marry without the King's permission)."
Confusion reigns supreme?
My sense is that the Vanity Fair article was cobbled together from different interviews conducted in 2019 & the part about the King's permission originated from Mr. Verrett but, due to circumstances, he has actually not officially proposed to the princess.
It shouldn't be any confusion about what the Constitution says. The only confusion is how the communication director is so far off track ...
