Re: Is the King still a duke?
However, Albert II is no longer king of Belgium but did he hold the title throughout his reign or was this title reverted back after his abdication? Interesting that in the Netherlands, the monarch upon abdication, or at least the former queens, reverts to their previous style/titles, e.g., princess of Orange-Nassau. Meanwhile, the former king of Belgium retains his title as 'king' and so does the former grand duke of Luxembourg retains his title. Previous Message He was given the title for life and still is alive so i don't see why he would not still be duke. Isn't the Queen still Duke of Lancaster? Im not sure but i believe Albert II is still Prince of Liege as well. Previous Message Previous Message When the present king of Sweden dies, therefore, his dukedom, Jämtland, will become vacant. It seems strange to me that the Sovereign would hold a titular honour granted by the crown he embodies and represents.
