I suppose if the Queen wants to visit Pss Benedikte or vice-versa, they won't need to cross the square by foot and it would be ridiculous to go by car.
Or is it known if there is an underground passage linking the 4 palaces ?
thanks for the information about princess Benedikte. I had already hoped that the two widowed sisters would be spending more time together and that is a lot easier if you live across the square from each other.
Margrethe can always rely on her sister being there for her and both seem perfectly at ease in their individual positions within the monarchy.
Do you know if the princess still occupies the same apartment as before? Not to long we saw pictures of it. She is supposed to have a drawing room, dining room, study/sitting room and her bedroom suite.
It is correct that the surrounding buldings are not part of Amalienborg. There are a few garrages and staff residences in the side buildings.
The reason Prince Joachim probably does not have an appartment at Amalienborg is that he lives 15 minutes away in a huge house. Previously he lived at Schackenborg.
Judging from her activities, it seems that Princess Benedikte now spends most of her time in Denmark, though no official announcements have been made about this.
That is interesting that the palace is surrounded by various buildings/offices not associated, I gather, with royal compound. It is also interesting that Prince Nikolai has a flat, as you say, but his father, Prince Joachim, may or may not.
When Queen Ingrid died and her residence/palace was eventually handed over to the CP couple, Frederik and Mary, therefore, what happened to her effects/personal belongings?
Moreover, how is the palace complex assigned to different members of the royal family, e.g., Princess Benedikte, Prince Joachim, etc?
Schack's / Christian IX's Palace: The Queen
Brockdorff's / Frederik VIII's Palace: The Crown Prince and Crown Princess
Levetzau's / Christian VIII's Palace: Princess Benedikte, Queen Anne-Marie and Prince Nikolai. I am not sure if Prince Joachim still has a flat there.
