Article 4 states: "Should the Royal Family become extinct, the Riksdag shall appoint a Regent to perform the duties of the Head of State until further notice. The Riksdag shall at the same time appoint a deputy Regent. The same applies if the King dies or abdicates and the heir to the throne has not yet attained the age of eighteen years."
Does this mean that if the monarch dies and the heir is a minor, the heir does not become monarch until reaching 18, and there is therefore an interregnum? Or does the heir succeed with a regency until s/he reaches 18?
In other words, if the present King had died in 1990, would Crown Princess Victoria have been proclaimed Queen, albeit with a regent, on her father's death? Or would she have remained Crown Princess Victoria until her 18th birthday?
Thanks for any insights.
