I agree with you, Mildred. If Henrik does die before the Queen, he will be buried as has always been planned and the "story" will come out that he has been battling a form of dementia for many years. That would be the best solution. Henrik has always been considered eccentric, hasn't he? He is finally reaching an end point where all his good work for Denmark has been overshadowed by his endless whining and now, this hurtful decision.
The other person who must be sadly affected by this behaviour is Prince Frederik the heir who continues to placate his father despite Henrik's lack of respect for his role and position. It would appear that Princess Mary has been a great support to Prince Frederik. All will be well.
: The more I think about the behavior of Prince
: Henrik, the more I think he may be
: suffering from some sort of mental disorder
: associated with aging. (Memory loss;
: disorientation, etc.) That could account for
: his blindsiding everyone by leaking this
: The official response from the Court was
: curious - no attempt to "spin" his
: remarks, just a sense that the story was out
: of control and they didn't know any other
: way to handle it.
: I certainly don't think the Queen should
: abdicate over this. She is the Queen. She
: will decide how to handle this. My suspicion
: is she will just carry on with her duties.
: And if it is a health issue re: the Prince,
: I think Henrik's statements will be ignored
: and he will be buried with the Queen as was
: planned long ago. After all, his death
: apparently is not imminent, so there may be
: a few years for all of this to calm down.
: The court will have time to put a new face
: on his behavior. ("The Prince was
: suffering from ill health for many years,
: etc. etc. and frequently had periods of
: mental confusion, etc. etc.)
: I just don't think anyone is going to touch
: that subject while Henrik is alive and
: (I do know for a fact that people in early
: stages of dementia or Alzheimer's can become
: aggressive and mean towards those around

: The way I see it, we are all equal in death
: and I don't understand why the Prince
: doesn't feel this. His wife may be a Queen,
: but from my point of view they are husband
: and wife in death. So his attitude towards
: her is very strange.

: It is most unfortunate that this has been
: made public. Otherwise, Prince Henrik might
: have been persuaded to change his mind. As
: it stands, his decision is disrespectful
: and, one would imagine, hurtful to his wife.
