You are correct about reigning queens with consorts that were entitled to the status of 'king consort'. Moreover, that is not the way the practice is now. For whatever reason, spouses of a reigning queen are styled 'prince' or some other title, e.g., duke of Edinburgh.
I am not arguing for or against a title of king consort but that is simply the practice in most countries today that recognize queen regnants or it seems this has been the case for most of the 20th and 21st century, e.g., in the Netherlands, Denmark and U.K.
Furthermore, Henrik is the one 'demanding' this style/title. Who is Henrik to demand that he receives equal status w/ his wife? I am only arguing because Henrik is the one demanding this not based on precedent and his royal lineage in and of itself should preclude him from making that demand. It is not for Henrik to decide his position in Denmark. That is determined by standards and practices at the royal court and, of course, the government.
: Jason while i don't agree with Hendrik's
: behaviour and choices he is correct in his
: statements that it is wrong that he isn't
: styled HM the King-consort of Denmark.
: King-consorts have existed in Spain,
: Portugal, Navarra, England and Scotland. So
: there are plenty of historical references
: that can be used.
: Just like most Royal succession laws have
: become gender neutral it is perfectly
: possible to style the spouse of a Royal with
: an equal rank and style.
: King is a title that does not always refer
: to a reigning monarch. Most Kings have
: been/are also the monarch but sometimes it
: refers to a former monarch or to the spouse
: of a monarch.
: Hendrik does not ask to be King Regnant he
: wants to be King Consort just like his
: mother-in-law became Queen-Consort.
: To me it is insulting to the very competent
: ladies who are Queens-Regnant when they
: apparently cannot have a spouse of equal
: rank and style. It implies the position of
: Queen is lower than that of King, making the
: current arrangement sexist.
: Once again i don't understand or agree
: Hendrik's recent actions but that does not
: mean the underlying cause isn't just.
: As for you point about his background does
: that mean you think crown princess Mary
: should as a woman of non-royal birth also

: I am very curious to know where Henrik got
: the audacity to have the presumption that
: he, at some point in his marriage or shortly
: prior to that event, should be given 'equal
: status' to his wife, the queen? A simple
: matter of tradition in other countries and
: as such practiced in Denmark whereas the
: consort of a reigning female monarch,e.g.,
: queen or grand duchess, has and is
: recognized at a lower rank, i.e., prince or
: duke, than his spouse.
: That being said, how does Henrik believe
: that he is more 'special' to receive equal
: status with his wife than say the Duke of
: Edinburgh, the late Prince Claus, Prince
: Bernhard, Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands
: and Prince Felix of Luxembourg? There seems
: to be at some point where the royal houses
: of Europe determined that a reigning queen's
: spouse should have lower rank. One can only
: surmise this was a way to emphasize that the
: female monarch,i.e., queen, grand duchess,
: is the authority in the kingdom/grand duchy
: she reigns. I can only further surmise that
: the traditional title of 'king' should not
: be provided to a female monarch due to the
: traditional nature of the title and
: authority the title of 'king' entailed.
: However, Henrik's lack of royal
: heritage/pedigree, and that fact alone,
: should exclude him from deserving the
: nominal title of 'king consort'. JMO

: Because he has been mistreated and not the

: I agree with BT that the decision is wrong
