When all three got married Alexandra got pushed out of the lime light. Charities simply dumped her (more or less politely) in order to pursue a new patron.
The fact that she has managed to create an income for herself that isn't considered totally unacceptable for the mother of potential heirs to the throne means she no longer really needs the state income. Ending it at a time when as a parent she formally doesn't have to pay for her sons is a smart move.
I understand that her popularity has plummeted in the Danish media. I however do not find anything wrong in stopping the contact between her sons and a man who betrayed her and as a result them. Martin is not an example i would want my teenage sons to be around. Especially as they have their own father and uncle as far better male role models. Alexandra very wisely understood that her sons are princes of the realm and need to act accordingly.
: " While her children were young the
: countess did not have to enter undesirable
: alliances with companies as she had her own
: financial income. As could be predicted in
: time she would be overshadowed in the public
: eye by the woman Frederik was going to marry
: and potentially a new wife of Joachim. That
: has happened. .."
: But the Countess has been a (well paid!)
: member of the Board of Directors of a Swisss
: Medical Firm, as well as she has been
: co-writing a book & published articles
: together with an american author for several
: years now !
: Those facts have been published over the
: past few years and people knew that the
: Countess was taking advantage of her
: education and skills, while also receiving
: this large amount ......
: When several of her Patronages came forward
: with info about her lack of interest it
: didn't do her image any good, as one may
: What I don't understand is how a
: well-educated woman who was clearly adored
: by her new countrymen (well, all except 1
: perhaps ) who spoke the language (and
: Danish doesn't come easy !!) how this woman
: would not want to create her own new 'niche'
: after that separation.
: She would have gained so much more by
: staying active and involved and even her
: second marriage would not have harmed her
: overall image in the way it all did now. The
: way she is portrayed as a golddigger is very
: damaging for her sons too you know!
: Her interview after the second divorce and
: how she refused her sons to see their 'extra
: daddy' (Martin) who always was around the
: boys, took them to school etc. did even more
: harm !
: So, in terms of PR, she really made a mess
: of it .. which is puzzling for a woman who -
: by all accounts - is not dumb!
