When looking at this I fully understand that many Danes have a problem with the way the apanages are now constructed but reforming the finances of a royal house seems to be an undertaking not many governments are willing to pursue and the initiative clearly is not coming from within the Royal Family. Having said that I find it baffling that neither Prince Henrik, CP Mary nor Princess Marie receive an apanage in her own right. In the latter case one could argue the need for siblings of the heir presumptive to receive a state income (and thus their spouses) but since Prince Joachim was granted one it would be logical his wife should receive her own. As for other members of the family who contribute to the monarchy a cost reimbursement system would be better I think. Granting former spouses lavish state incomes for life is pretty outdated I think but I assume it was in Alexandra's wedding contract or divorce settlement. At the start of her reign Queen Margarethe was praised for reforming her court and other elements of the monarchy but I suppose the finances were left out at the time? It seems the Danish monarchy is left with the remnants of an old system. Reforming the system requires a new arrangement for core royals while respecting the current agreements to pay peripheral royals an income or compensation for their work for the monarchy.
