Is there any public money directly involved in the maintenance of the estate ?
If H-M receives any public allowance as Crown-Prince, does that come with the specific obligation on maintaining Sakugum or is he free to spend it as he chooses to ?
I could not read the article in norwegian but the houses involved seemed old sheds with no particular historic interest .
Have the local authorities justified their historic importance or did they just put the label and that's all ?
Is there any feud between H-M and the local authority that might have taken them to (apparently) antagonize the CP on this matter ?
: Well I am sure it was easier to manage the
: estate in years gone by but the CP has to
: manage it this day and age with all the
: costs involved. Restoring houses and
: infrastructure is much more expensive for
: various reasons. You can't just say:
: mismanagement because they need to sell
: certain properties to keep the estate going!
: They have professionals around to advise
: them. Surely it is not like MM and Haakon
: were sitting around the kitchen table
: deciding to sell off properties to pay their

: Torkel, I wouldn't really call Aftenposten
: nrk.no for tabloids!
: The way Skaugum has been discussed, both in
: the Norwegian media as well as by
: politicians in Stortinget (Parliament) is
: far from favourable. When the present King
: still was Crown Prince and owner of Skaugum
: he also had a difficult time to keep things
: going, financially, so his apanage was
: 'adjusted' and thus he managed to keep
: things going there despite it being hard
: times for many who owned an agricultural
: business on a large scale. He never needed
: to sell houses on the estate though ! And it
: still remained an agricultural business as
: it had been for decades !
: We now see a CP whose apanage is high but
: who seems not to be able to manage the
: estate without diminishing it all the time
: Most of the traditional Norwegian press is
: extremely respectful towards the royals, so
: when the papers do report and there are
: also voices raised in Parliament *(as you
: well know too) then there really is
: something wrong!

: Norwegian papers are (yet again) publishing
: reports about the neglect by the CP Couple
: of their Skaugum estate.
: As we've seen earlier on the CP sold some
: properties on the estate and the profits
: went into his private purse.
: Also the upheaval about using staff that's
: paid by a different source for the
: maintenance of their private
: lodges/summerhouses did not add much
: positive PR either.
: The latest in this soap series is that the
: two historic buildings which the CP couple
: wanted to sell first, but were prevented
: from doing so by vote of Norwegian
: officials, are now - 3 years later - still
: standing to rot away while locals, museums
: directors and many more are wondering why no
: money had been spent on restoring these
: buildings, especially after all the news
: With all the millions CP Haakon earned when
: selling other houses on the estate he could
: easily have been involved in restoring these
: lovely old buildings.
: Articles in Norwegian, but much telling pics
