HSH Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg turns 75 years old today – which is a small miracle considering how ill he was some years ago. He has always preferred the quiet life in Berleburg to the royal banquets in Copenhagen - and is in this and many other respects a complete contrast to his wife Princess Benedikte. Outspoken as he is, he has never made a secret out of their differences and the problems it sometimes gives to be the husband of a busy princess. Nevertheless, they have been married for over 40 years now and share not least a good sense of humour. Richard’s bursts of laughter are as wellknown as his candid remarks, but he is also a man of temper. A German magazine once wrote: "When he gets really angry, the royal house trembles in Denmark". Oh well, let’s hope the years have softened him a bit :-)
