In today's Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant a nice article (plus 4 beautiful photos of the interior) is published about The Hôtel des Ambassadeurs de Hollande in Paris (Marais). It is said that two months ago the Queen of Denmark hosted a dinner here (according to the manager). The beautiful palazzo is for sale now (est. price 31 million euros). Last owner: Paul-Louis Weiller...
I wonder: is this the p(a)lace in which the Danish (and Luxembourg's Sybilla?) royal family still can use some rooms "when in Paris" or is that a different place in the same Marais neighbourhood.
It must be one of the most beautiful places in Paris. It's also known as Hôtel Amelot de Bisseuil.
A litte bit of history:
The Hôtel des Ambassadeurs de Hollande was designed by the architect Cottard in the 17th Century for the Viscount of Bisseuil, Maître des Requêtes (Master of Petitions) to Louis XIV. It is located on the site of the former Hôtel de Rieux in front of which the Duke Louis of Orléans was assassinated in 1401 by Jean sans Peur's men. The mansion takes it name from the fact that Marcus Guitton, chaplain of the Embassy of Holland resided here between 1720 and 1727. Beaumarchais also lived here from 1776 where he wrote the Marriage of Figaro. The building has a magnificent portal decorated with masks and allegories. The pediment of the edifice still carries the letters A and B, monogram of its first resident Amelot de Bisseuil.
