Dear Jo, I am not quite following you here. You reduce HM's co-operation to the "acting" work of HM. But this is just 1% of the whole artistic project this filmatizing of a Danish fairy tale in fact is. HM took care of the scenography as an almost professional artist and was heavily involved in the production of it all.
Of course this film has to be paid by someone. Nothing goes for free these days.
But should artists then never take part in commercial activities?
It perfectly fits well in HM's artistic "carreer" so far. As you very well know, HM had problems with allowing herself to share her creativity with other (She told her: Margrethe, can't you just start reigning in stead). You should see it in a wider perspective than just seeing a queen in beggar's outfit to draw the 100,000s to the cinema. This is Danish royal culture too. A queen pursuing her own interesting besides being the perfectly functioning queen (admit! If all this would have come instead of her actual work, I'd agree with you.)
Queen Juliane Marie designed the Royal Copenhagen logo (the three waves = Little and Great Belts plus Sound) : should she not have done this because this Danish table ware sells?
Of course you have the right to have your opinion about this but I think you see the role of this Queen of Denmark as something more Roman than the Pope. Margrethe also did countless projects for free (the good cause) and I suppose she didn't get a penny (an oere) for her work for this project...
