Did she have to play the protagonist of the film Princess Elisa then? That would have been too easy for HM: no challenge.
And who says these farmers were "beggars"? To clean your face was something which wasnt very normal for the (wo)man on the street/in the fields in Hans Christian Andersen's days before the invention of soap; and not widely spread among the whole populace...
Again a big applause and a deep bow for a queen whose majesty is lies inside of her! And who couldn't care less about what people think of her: she only lives once! And she does superbly!
I hope you do not mix up wrapping with content when judging other non royal people, Jo.
Queen Juliana performed as a cleptomaniac... (but she played a chic lady from the upper middle classes... in love with fur she couldn't afford...
