First of all we are not talking about nobility but about Royalty.
But yes i don't see why the husband of a countess could become a count just like the wife of a count becomes a countess. Just like family-names the ex-spouse cannot give that name+title to a new spouse and looses the right to use the name(+title) either at the divorce or at the latest when they remarry. So no mess at all.
To keep it Royal:
If Victoria marries Daniel he should become HRH the crownprince and Duke but when they divorce he should become plain mister Westling again. If he would remarry his new wife would be mrs Westling or she could continu her own name.
Just like what would happen to Emma if she marries Carl-Philip.

: so i feel the

: So do you also think that any man who
: marries a countess should become a count
: himself? I can assure you that every
: nobility organization will protest against
: that.
: What happens, for instance, if the new count
: gets divorced and marries another woman?
: Then she will become a countess and their

: although they have no blood ties at all with
: the original noble family. A total mess.
