: That was more or less the same in the
: Netherlands until 2002. No one foresaw the
: explosion of Prince and Princesses. What
: started as a family of six (Juliana,
: Bernhard and their four daughters) soon
: exploded into a family of almost 30 persons.
: The Crown thought it was wise to modernize
: the kingship and with this also review the
: titulature. The less Princes and Princess,
: the more exclusive the title.
:
:
: But this is not what is going on in Denmark.
: At least not for now. The grandchildren of
: the Monarch are Princes and Princesses. All
: of them. What might happen to grand-children
: is another matter, but the Danish royals
: have for the last ca. 100 years understood
: to limit the more "distant" lines
: by creating them Counts of Rosenborg.
:
:
: But it is not because they were
: "distant" that they were created
: Counts of Rosenborg. That title was given to
: Princes who lost their princely titles after
: marrying without the King's consent.
:
: We can discuss this over and over again. But
: the fact is that they all belonged to
: "distant" or potentialle
: "distant" lines.
:
:
: 1. I have not wished for this to be
: discussed over and over again. I thought the
: facts were obvious.
: 2. I don't dispute that at least some of
: them were rather "distant".
: But still, it was when they lost their
: successional rights, that they were created
: Counts of Rosenborg. Do you really think
: that the sons of Prince Knud would have lost
: their princely titles and subsequently been
: created Counts of Rosenborg, had they not
: conducted marriages that made them lose
: their successional rights?
:
Knud and Christian would not have lost their titles had they conducted other marriages. But my argument is that they were on the verge of becoming distant - had they been more directly in line, they would probably have been permitted to marry Inge and Anne-Dorte, just as Margrethe was allowed to marry Henrik and Frederik and Joachim to marry Mary, Alexandra and now Marie.
