Well, Monpezat is not just a "{French" name but would, under ordinary circumstances, be the surname of Joachim and Fredrick (if the Daniush royals used surnames), so down the road, it would be logical for their progeny to somehow incorporate that name, and a countly title was thrown into it for good measure. Which brings up a point, was a letter patent ever issued that retains The Queen's family name (which I cannot spell forgive me) or will the dynasty change to Monpezat when Fredrick ascends to the throne?

: I had a terribly cynical thought.

: Yes, this is a nod to P.Henrik's backround,
: but this announcement coming right before
: P.Joachim's second wedding - is it also a
: mechanism to provide a Countess title for
: future ex-wives.

: Sorry, but, the J&A divorce must have caused
: some problems with her losing the HRH and
: needing to be called something else.

: Thank you for your answer.

: But that is the whole point. The press
: release does not say anything about Prince
: Henrik's title (nobody really cares here),
: but "strenghtening the ties to the
: French background".
:
: Prince Henrik is also not mentioned in the
: statement. He is still ot known as Prince
: Consort Henrik, Count de M.
