Posted by Mrs R Chasm on 1/13/2005, 11:26 pm As you may or may not know Liverpool will be European city of culture for 2008 and as a result is undergoing major redevelopment. One such redevelopment is the expansion of Edge Lane into a dual carriageway. Consequentially 400 homes will be compulsorily purchased and 200 people looking for new homes. As a result of this a proposal has been submitted to the dutchy with the intention of turning St Agnes meadow into an over-spill residential estate. The development will consist of 34 two-up two-down terraced houses and 4 high-rise flats housing up to 378 people. The tennis court and cricket pitch would obviously be built over and the Island Hall demolished but plans are in place for a 5-star multi-fitness gymnasium and leisure complex as well as a shopping arcade, Vegas style casino and a McDonalds. Or possibly a KFC. Finally an underpass is planned from the Turk's Head to where the pond is now (which incidentally will be filled in and turned into an NCP car park)in order to minimize congestion and disruption to island life. For this there will be a small charge. Now, like I say, its only what I've heard so it may not be true but is anyone else enraged? I think I'm going to write a letter or something...

I don't wish to alarm anyone but I heard that a major building contractor has applied to the dutchy for planning permission on St Agnes.
