Flemski have now won more than one title at each of ATP, Challenger and Futures level in the same year, which must border on being unique!
Two ATP titles in 6 weeks is amazing, as are their 15-2 overall record and their 8-0 record in ATP matches since the start of Metz. They are also 3-0 against GEM pairings in ATP/Challenger Finals over the last two months.
Their consistency, the way they rise to the big occasion and the fact that they are two Brits playing together almost all the time would appear to make them the DC doubles team we've always wanted!
Could they eventually reach the heights of one of these GB doubles pairings?
Tim Henman/Greg Rusedski - 8-1 in DC in the 1990s/2000s (but they hardly ever played together on the tour, of course)
Colin Dowdeswell/John Lloyd - 5-0 in DC in the 1980s (only 4-3 when JL played with his brother in the 1970s)
Mike Sangster/Bobby Wilson 11-3 in DC in the 1960s (probably our best doubles partnership since the war, since they played DC at a higher level than Tim/Greg - in fact, Wilson won 25 DC doubles rubbers in total, easily a British record)
Patrick Hughes/Fred Perry - 11-3 in DC in the 1930s (*)
Ian Collins/Colin Gregory - 6-0 in DC in the last 20's/early 30s
(*) No idea if they were a regular partnership or more of a Perry=Muzza Hughes=Hutch thing but both feature in 'Boggo's coming home' - Perry for the obvious reason, Hughes because he partnered Tuckey in the doubles in our last two winning DC Finals.
In fact, Hughes & Tuckey were the last Brits to win the Wimbledon men's doubles title in 1936 (the same year, of course, that we had our last Wimbledon men's singles winner and our last DC win) and I think (E&OE!) Hughes and Perry were the last Brits to win the men's doubles at an overseas slam in 1934.
