QUOTES OF THE DAY
DJ (MP) made a plea for me to use my presence at Wimbledon to help arrest her slide down the BOTB table: "am i too late to request that you do something to make sure that Haas beats Fed? Try shouting 'Fed, Mirka's gone in to labour' or 'Nadal's behind you' or 'Look out! Sampras has an axe'" You were just too late, I'm afraid, DJ - I was just yards from the Fed each time he served from the right-hand side at the royal box end too, but now we'll never know what effect it might have had.
Her team-mate and world no. 1 for at least one more day (that's Pebs (MP), not Rafa!) had taken more direct action herself in letter form before the QFs: "Dearest Roddick, if you allow rat faced Hewitt to beat you today, I shall be forced to come find you and insert this chainsaw in places it doesnt really fit. The ball is in your court. love n hugs"
Linda (AM) summed up the feelings of quite a few people on the Murray boards: "I got one right today - but it was the one I had hoped to get wrong"
Superbrat (CC) gets a nice surprise on checking the results after, I can only assume, a good night on the town: "I haven't checked this all week and trying to work out how I got to 29th I was about 189 before."
WimbledonAce (AM/CC) quickly deflated her balloon: "just looked and it said you are 262 unless you have changed your name?!"
Editor's note: To solve the mystery, 29 is the figure in SB's overall ranking column (a fine achievement, obviously, but not a column you're likely to mistake for your position in the current pick 'em before a night out on the town!), not her position in the Wimby pick 'em.
Lex (CC) betrays a geek's way of looking at the situation: "soooooooo... if this were a program... IF Muzza +Rog = final AND Rog = 1 THEN Lex <100 ELSE I'm screwed"
Dark Necrofear (CC) views BOTB as a pandemic: "The BOTB bug is very very infectious and none can resist its will to control you insanely. Its like swine flu but with scores rather than coughs! LOL!" Nice one, DN!
I'll leave the last word to individual winner T01 (CC), who has the rare luxury of knowing that he's going to win the competition even if his winner pick (Fed) loses on Sunday: "Thanks guys. I am really happy to see the results. Well done to jack and others too! Now I would like Roddick to win the cup to change the mood in slams a bit! He has done fantastically well to overcome Andy Murray in London!!" ... however, he might want to modify that when he realises that the bonus points for how far you are above the average mean that he will get 2x758 ranking points if Duckboy wins but 2x782 if Fed does!
