I had my day out at Wiblydon yesterday - sadly on number one so the tennis wasnt much cop (Ivanovic retired and I lasted 20 minutes of Karlovic's tedious serving but Roddick was mighty impressive) but managed to see bits of Hewitt sneak past the ghastly Stephanek, the first set of Ferrero coming back from a shakey start to nail a rather petulant Simon, all sorts of doubles from the debenture restaurant (including the beast of Belarus) and a really impressive Radwanska overcoming Oudin - who had beaten Kuznetsova last week.
Henman Hill during the Murray match was absolutely mental, in fact we decamped to someone's house to watch it on a telly so that we were near enough to read the score !
I think Radwanska is an outside bet for the women's title. Really nice style of play. How many other women players serve and volley ? So refreshing. great legs too ! She did have a tendency to take her foot off the gas on big points, often just hacking the ball back into play rather than doing anything with the ball - totally unlike her normal style. Still, I think she looks REALLY good - in all respects.
Roddick looked very good indeed and although I think Murray has too much for the feisty and determined Ferrero who did so well against Simon - Roddick looks like a proper threat to me.
Best of all though.....I saw Quereshi. Only for about 5 minutes, losing in a doubles match with Armitrage (presumably son of VJ ?) but he actually looked quite good. I wasn't sure which player was which but there was a very helpful and rather nerdy and obsessive seeming man who knew all the players' names - even tho they were not well known. He also knew their rankings. And he knew their weights (but only in KG's). I left quickly before he could tell me anything else or start talking about star trek. Promise me we aren't ALL like this guy. I worry about myself - particularly during the prediction games.
Anyway, all good fun and a terrific atmosphere this year.
