it occured to me as i was shopping at pc world that perhaps an external dvd writer drive would be a better choice than an internal one since then i could use it on various computers and even to watch movies on a tv set. (i am totally new to dvd equipment so excuse my ignorance.)
will a dvd writer work with usb 1 or only with usb 2 if the specs say usb 2?
are there other kinds of external connectios that are better, say firewire?
is parallel an option?
my main use would be to burn my edited videos to a dvd rather than a dv tape as i currently do, but i actually edit on three computers, one has usb 2 and the others have usb 1, and they all have firewire and parallel.
does a dvd writer need to have special software installed to burn edited videos?
does one need to use an authoring software on a dvd just to burn a video to it and then play it on some other dvd player?
and finally would going external limit my choice as to quality or formats?
should i go for a dvd + and - r/rw? should i also get dvd ram in the formats?
can anyone please advise me on this and perhaps suggest a suitable machine that would be good to buy?
thanks.
Luis
