need for torque

I'm not a drag racer but do have a love for fast bikes. I have a semi stock v-rod and I'm looking for more torque. I noticed that people are puting chain drives on their v-rods. What do you gain buy doing this? Torque? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, v-rod loyalist.
