If one is a member of a religion, and believes that religion to be in accord with the word of God, then what else could you wish for? It would be different if Coulter had said that all Americans should be REQUIRED to be Christian, instead of persuaded to be. But not in her wildest moment has Coulter ever indicated that kind of mindset. There is a lot of diversity among Christians, and indeed very strong disagreements between Catholics, Baptists and Pentecostals, all of whom are strongly represented on the right of the political spectrum. But all of us share the philosophy that disagreements must be handled in a Christian manner, with love, generosity and patience, just in the same way that God regards us sinners. A great many Jews listen to the Christian right and understand that our desire to make Christians of them is not disrespectful of their faith in God, nor a portent of forceful conversion. There are also Moslems who disavow the sword as a means of conversion, and who proclaim that anyone who submits to the will of God is already a moslem. Normally I do not believe in treading on egg shells when speaking my mind, but sometimes it pays to be a bit explanatory, and Coulter should have explained a bit more what her intent was when she spoke. With her experience, she should have anticipated that her words might be taken in the wrong way. At the same time, all of us, when we hear someone speak, should ASK, first, instead of eagerly making accusations.
