From my point of view, nothing would be better than a separate candidate to represent the interests of the religious right. Then again, I think this is (a) more posturing than real threat--they hope to get a commitment from the Repubs in exchange for NOT running their own candidate; and (b)I doubt the Democrats will run a really good candidate, minimizing the benefit that might flow from the automatic Dem victory that religious right candidate would prduce.
