There are physical differences between the races, and even in the US, some subcultural differences of note. A few months ago I met a black family who had lived nearly all their lives in various white neighborhoods. Aside from their skin color, they could have been caucasians, judging by their speech, mannerisms and attitudes. They had briefly lived in a black neighborhood, and found themselves alienated, "different." I expressed mild astonishment at all this, but neither they nor I are racist.

If I were to go into a Chinese restaurant and find it to be no different than an Italian restaurant, I would express mild astonishment.
