I suspect it would measure how strong the sexual identification is and/or how many of the subjects were, in fact, closeted homosexuals or bisexuals.

The homosexual to heterosexual study is, to my mind, merely a measure of how strong the psychological motivation was to become something more "acceptable" to family, society, etc.
