Posted by Bob on 8/28/2007, 1:52 pm, in reply to "Re: England: Guns Banned, Crime Soars" The recent Virginia Tech case is a classic example of literally dozens of preventable murders, murders that were enabled by a college policy of violating the Second Amendment. Across the USA, tens of thousands of people have legal "carry" permits. Only a minuscule few of these people ever commit any crime with their guns. (Actually, I'm not aware of any, although I am sure there must be some.) That is proof positive that law abiding citizens can be trusted to "own and bear arms." Yet, VT feared licensed gun owners more than they feared the prospect of dozens of unarmed students being murdered on campus, by someone who DID NOT HAVE a carry permit, and was not deterred by any law against guns. In England, an official police brochure advised people witnessing a crime (such as robbery or rape) to "walk by." Well duh. After you've disarmed your law abiding citizenry, what else CAN they do? You've handed over power to the criminals, and guess what? THEY have guns, law or no law.

Yes it is. Statistics show that criminals fear the prospect of encountering an armed victim. When they know, for a fact, that their victim is defenseless, then they are greatly encouraged to attack. Women are especially vulnerable to this, and women are the greatest beneficiaries of responsible weapons ownership.
