There is a large breeding ground of people who are oppressed by their own governments. Those governments blame America. The oppressed tend to believe this, and can be recruited. Once you end the tyranny, you shrink that breeding ground to near zero. In the 1920s and 30s, the world stood by as brutal tyrannies ran amok in Europe and Asia. The consequence was world war. That war ended only when we had killed so many of the enemy that they were incapable of continuing to wage war. Cold, hard, reality.

Iran is not posturing. They are building nukes. They have announced that they will use those nukes. People who know their leaders say that if we do not take them at their word, we are committing suicide.
