We cannot alter the way that other Muslims see our involvement there. We cannot wipe out the effects of the propaganda goldmines that we have given our opponents with Abu Ghraib, other acts of violence toward civilians, the inflammatory words of C**lter and her ilk, and the like. We cannot wipe out our past history that leads many Muslims to distrust us. We cannot wipe out the incredible number of mistakes made after the invasion. Even instituting a draft (impossible in practical terms) and sending half a million troops to Iraq will not get a "good" outcome. But I'll bet you that Bush and the Repub leadershp make that last ditch effort to put a happy face on Iraq before the elections, and that this costs a ton of money and some lives. We can only hope that they aren't successful in manipulating public opinion to the point that they feel safe in invading Iran & really running up both the body count and the Islamic hatred of the U.S., while making Iran a sympathetic figure.

The outcome in Iraq is beyond our control, literally (every day, it seems more likely that the same is true about Afghanistan).
