As much as I value freedom, I would not wish to be the guy trying to explain why I failed to prevent a nuclear-incinerated US city when the means to do so had fallen in my lap. In the immediacy of such a situation, the concrete reality of an iminent attack will make freedom seem more an abstraction by comparison. But let there be no doubt, empowering government is far more easily done than retracting those powers at a later time.

I'm not defending nor attacking the administration. I doubt that they are deliberately undermining the Constitution, but I do not doubt that they are emphasizing the war against terrorists, which is almost certainly at the expense of some of our freedoms.
