I'm the recipient of these "capitalist pig solutions" and, at least in Oregon, my medicaid/Oregon Health Plan coverage is limited. I have no vision, dental limited to emergency extractions and limited physicians to choose from. Fortunately, I have a good physician at a small clinic, but most of the other clinics are large, noisy, crowded clinics not situated in the best parts of the city. Also, I'm 'grandfathered' in on the OHP, as they are no longer accepting applications (thank King George for his cuts in Medicaid). I don't know how other disadvantaged people are surviving without health insurance. The food stamp program requires any able-bodied persons to look for work. Do you think that the powerful fat cats in government want THAT? The answer to that could take a book to answer. In a nutshell, after the "New Deal" the federal government has become entrenched in programs and huge spending and no one wants to lose their pet project or program. I think a good start would be to overhaul the electoral college to give independents an equal footing to get rid of the republican/democratic entrenchment.

The social left disdains the idea of a "capitalist pig" solution, and insists on government programs to feed the poor, and keep them dependent on government.
