Others demand that their condition be recognized as "normal." They are irked that schools, while sometimes required to teach that homosexuality is normal, do not afford the same recognition to transgenderism. Frankly, I think that the arguments on both sides are wrongheaded. "Disease" can sometimes be a subjective or even politically motivated definition. I prefer the term, "dysfunction." Using a wrench as a hammer is an analogous term. Whereas the wrench itself is not dysfunctional, its use as a hammer is not according to its designed function. I think that the analogy fits.
