Posted by Bob on 8/2/2007, 12:26 pm, in reply to "Re: The Republican propaganda mill, a brief history" Politics is war by different means, and there is no room for the faint of heart. Dirty tricks are abundant, and no one in either camp hesitates to use them if they can get away with it. Republicans are in this for all the marbles. So are the Democrats. Political parties have gone extinct before, and there are marginal rivals on the edges (Green Party and Libertarians), which stand ready to fill any vacuum left by the big players. Both major parties know this, and that is why, despite their ferocity against each other, they unite in common cause to prevent the smaller parties from gaining a voice. They call it, "campaign finance reform." Notice that such reform keeps not one additional penny out of republican and democrat coffers, but it imposes onerous and expensive reporting requirements that no smaller party can effectively meet. You want fair? Just try and get the Democrats OR the Republicans to be fair about THAT.

I would be shocked, shocked, if both major political parties were not doing absolutely everything within their power, to persuade people to vote for them. I would be shocked if either party took the attitude, well we must be "fair" to our opponents.
