For example, even before there was any direct evidence for black holes, there were theoretical predictions suggesting how we might find that evidence, and apparently, we have. But for now, concerning exo-technology, it is as if we were indeed alone in the universe.

Occam's razor suggests that the simplest explanation for having no evidence of X is that there is no X. In the case of ET tech, this explanation may not be the most satisfactory, but it is the one to be disproved by evidence. Until that evidence is observed, and there is no guarantee that it ever will be, then we can only speculate, wait, and seek. I enjoy the speculation, both as an exercise, and because it suggests further, practical lines of inquiry.
