Colonization of other star systems would become a necessity to maintain the technology levels required by such a civilization. The only means beyond this I can fathom is to evolve to a level where physical existence is no longer a necessity, and that may not even be possible. Given the vast amount of uncertainty contained within this topic, I feel that all theories in this area pretty much stand on equal footing and deserve equal consideration. Unless you can point to some very specific evidences, I will maintain that stance.
