Did Plame at any time mention that her husband had a political bias that might call his report into question? Did she at any time suggest that it might risk her cover if her husband was sent on a high profile, politically sensitive mission? If Cheney himself requested the mission, was he ever briefed about the potential ramifications that might arise if Wilson were to go public with the report BEFORE briefing Cheney about his involvement? There are just too many inconsistencies in this to believe Plame's and Wilson's version unskeptically. If Cheney, or anyone in the administration knowingly and deliberately "outed" a CIA covert agent, then he should be shot on two crimes: treason and abject stupidity. Cheney would have to have known that (a) he had nothing whatsoever to gain and (b) he would be risking jail to gain it. It's simply not plausible that he acted on that level of simplicity. Even were he to have had vile, evil motives, he has the intelligence and resources to have done far worse and at far less risk. His actions at the time seem uncalculated, which is the way people act when they are not scheming. Cheney et al were certainly culpable by not cooperating fully with the investigation. If their motive for non-cooperation was to hide some nefariousness on their part, then the investigation should continue. If it was simple embarrasment, then they should be exposed. Just as "Larry J" condemns Clinton's duplicity, so I also have few good things to say about Bush, as I have castigated him on this message board repeatedly. I take each case on its own, and so far, it seems to me that Wilson and Plame were not acting in good faith from the outset (even if Cheney was not), and that now that matters blew up in their face, they are playing the role of victim. Perhaps they are partially correct. But it would help matters had they come to the table with clean hands themselves.

Okay, I'll admit that I do not have time to carefully read this whole thing just now, but I did an MS Word search for "Armitage," and did not find his name mentioned. If I recall, he was deeply involved in this matter, and not entirely innocently.
