The application of those rulings have led to an abundance of being overly cautious with any mention of prayer or bible, which is where school administrators get it wrong. Clarifying rulings are needed. As we have been around the block many, many times on the first amendment, I don't feel it really necessary to point out the overly simplistic interpretation you give again.

Interpretations of what exactly entails government entanglement with religion and thereby an implicit endorsement of a religion are what have led to the muddy waters on this issue. And this is what leads many school administrations to the extreme caution we see, which leads to issues such as the one you mentioned in the opening post.
