Kiernan is traditionally a boys first name. It is actually an alternate spelling for Kieran, which is Gaelic for "small and dark skinned." I believe their was a Saint named Kieran. The female form of this name is Kiera - which is my daughter's name - and quite beautiful if I may say so. Good Luck.
