SENERCHIA AND PREITZEL GRAB NSTC WINS By: Kevin Ramsell Saturday, October 29, 2005 (Loves Park, IL) - John Senerchia and Bill Preitzel captured feature wins at the 40th Annual National Short Track Championships presented by Chicago International Trucks. Senerchia grabbed the early lead from Jamie Dorsey at the start of the 5 & Drive 75-lap feature event for Mid-American Series. The first caution flew on lap 2 when Bill Tuckwell and Allen Randall made contact and Randall lost a good portion of his fiberglass body to bring out the caution. Senerchia led the field to the re-start with Dorsey in second and Josh Nelms in third. By lap 15, James Swan moved from his sixth starting position to third and challenged Dorsey for second. The caution flew on lap 16 Dan Powell and Jimmy Becker spun coming out of turn two. Both were able to continue. Senerchia pulled away from Dorsey on the re-start while Swan challenged Dorsey for second. Dorsey was able to hold on to the position. At the halfway mark, Senerchia continued to lead by over 20 car lengths over Dorsey and Swan. Positions two through eight were nose to tail. The caution flew on lap 51 when Dorsey spun into some fluid on the track causing a melee in turns three and four. Everyone was able to continue. Senerchia continued to lead with Swan challenging for the top spot. Senerchia held on until the caution flew on lap 54 when Jerry Einhaus hit the turn one wall. It appeared that some piece of suspension broke on the Einhaus machine and was done for the day. Caution flew on lap 62 when 2005 Mid-American Series Champion Bill Prietzel lost his motor coming out of turn four. Senerchia led with 10 laps to go with Swan and Jerry Spoonmore on his back bumper. With 8 laps to go, Senerchia pulled away to about a two-car length lead over Swan. Senerchia would go on to the victory with Swan in second and Spoonmore in third. Bobby Gutknecht came home fourth with Josh Nelms rounding out the top five. Tony Holm and Fred Oswald led the field to the start of the 30-lap Mid-American Truck feature. The two battled side-by-side until Holm took the top spot on lap 2. Bryan Pautsch made contact with the turn four wall on lap 3 to bring out the first caution. Holm continued to lead while Bill Preitzel and Oswald put on a spirited battle for second. Preitzel would take over the position. Preitzel would get on the inside of Holm on lap 9 to challenge for the top spot. Preitzel would take over the top spot on lap 10 and pull away from Holm. The caution flew on lap 22 when Matt Vaade spun in turns three and four. He was able to continue. Preitzel would continue to lead with five laps to go. Behind him, Larry Fitzsimmons battled with Holm for second. Fitzsimmons would take over the spot with three laps to go. Vaade spun again with two laps to go to leave a green-white-checkered situation for the leader. On the final lap, Fitzsimmons made a one final run at Preitzel, but at the finish line it was Preitzel with the win by a car length. Holm came home third while Donnie Woller and Vince Wilkinson rounded out the top five. The 59th season of racing at the Rockford Speedway will begin on April 1-2, 2006 with the Spring Classic.
